I am one of the potentially affected(so says Fluke) owner of 87V.  I called Fluke and spoke to Robin who says that it could be, but could not tell me for certain by the serial number.  He transferred me to customer care and the lady Carolyn there had no idea what I was talking about. Robin says that only a few in million are affected...

After being on hold for like 10 minutes, she says the department she consulted told her that it would need to be sent back-in to get checked out and have a firmware update.

I have one with 88xxxxx, 1.01 software with REV 009 board. I just really don't understand how software affects the processing of received interference and I'm concerned that it might apply a filter like Lo-Pass that could retard response or lower performance in some way.  Response form Fluke as of Nov 2013 ranges form we're not sure, maybe to firmware update and I'm not feeling too confident and pondering on whether or not I should send it in.

According to this post, the issue was corrected on units with SN 19470148 and higher and SLJ said that Fluke replaced the entire unit.  https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/2008-fluke-87v/msg171053/#msg171053

Sure, the calibration will probably be tight off the production line, but how do the newer production lot compare in stability over time, because I sure as heck won't be sending it in for regular calibration, so I would prefer one that drifts as little as possible.

Looks like your call was answered by a typical "amazing" support guy whos got his new job and his job is to fill computer with your contact informations and other stuff...

Once he entered question in the system you are transferred to a different department and they are researching your problem. if a "technician" (usually another guy who got his new job) uses wrong keywords during researching database you get no answer or stupid answer :)

I have to Fluke 87-V multimeters, one I purchased a few years ago, new, and before the GSM bug was fixed. The other I purchased recently, used, from a pawn shop. I just noticed now that they are very slightly different. The screens are different (can't see this in the attached photo) and also while in temperature measure mode, one says "OL" while the other says "OPEN". I don't care since they both work otherwise identically, but I thought I'd post that here just in case anyone does.

I did not say Fluke replaced the unit.  I contacted them before I purchased mine for the serial numbers of the updated versions.   I have now added that note to the original post.

If I remember correctly, Dave said something like If you have one of the older ones just don't talk on your cell phone right next to it while your using it.  I don't think it's really a problem to worry about unless your using it to make measurements in the middle of a cell phone tower antenna array.

What are the first 3 of your serials and what do they read when you turn it on while holding the AutoHOLD button? This is the firmware version.  My 1.01 says "OL" with open input in temp range.

My "OL" one is also version 1.01. The other is version 3.03

According to Fluke, the revision isn't the board... but the firmware.

I wonder how exactly firmware prevents noise from getting into op-amp.

Please forgive me for posting to this old thread but I just wanted to let everyone on this forum know, a lot of people read these posts and I too owned an older Fluke 87v as described above, due to the info in this post I called Fluke and they are taking my unit in for repair under warranty.
Again, I just wanted to say THANK YOU to the people on this forum for this helpful info.  :-+

Regards,
