Hi there. Coupe days ago I got Fluke 79 DMM from ebay. The multimeter was for parts and not working. I have good experience whit flukes and I know most of their problems.
So I won this fluke and check what I got: (the first 2 pictures)
This multimeter looks like taken from a river. Rust everywhere. Some missing components. When I saw this I was disappointed and I through that this fluke is dead. Anyway I started cleaning with IPA and some other chemicals for PCB cleaning. I cleaned the PCB and tried to power the unit. My surprise was when I saw that the unit works. It indicates something. I continued to clean it. One of the trimmers has corrosed pin, two SMD transistors has missing pins, the input protection 1K 2W resistor was missing etc. I changed all of them with new components. Next step is to desolder the selector. You can see how the pcb looks below the selector. I cleaned everything and the multimeter works! I calibrated using my fluke 187 and now I have fully working fluke 79!
The battery terminals and the small fuse holder looks so rusty and I will try to find a new ones in the future.
Anyway I don't know how fluke makes their PCB's but this PCB is build like a tank. Even after what it was only two small pcb tracks was corrosed. Everything else is in perfect condition. RESPECT FLUKE!!!!
