Fluke 289 internal battery replacement ?
« on: October 01, 2024, 10:19:24 pm »
My fluke keeps telling me to set the time and date every day because i turn it off form the mains and its powered by DC brick instead of batteries.
So my guess internal battery is low. It read 1v or less.
I think it should be 3v but i dont know for sure. My assumption is based on voltage measurement when meter is ON.

OS there a replacement i can buy somewhere ?
part number ?

Its sport welded so i guess it will be sold with the tabs already spot welded or not ? I cant really solder that battery the way it is because it will overheat and get damaged.

this is not a battery,  its a super capacitor, if its not rusted   dont touch it

it serves as time memory / clock   for logging purposes

if you dont put any cells in your battery pack, at one time for sure it will ask to set things,  since this capacitor will discharge over time

dont touch it
The whole reason why i have a multi meter is to touch things i am not supposed to.
So i followed your advice and put a small rechargeable battery in there. Ill let you know if it blows  up  :palm:

So the battery trick didnt work. It died overnight. Brand new battery and i expect the super capacitor will work even less so.
Conclusion: That battery/SuperCap is to keep the memory/clock alive only for a very short period of time to swap batteries.
The deeper i go into fluke, the better it gets.

Once i am done with the batteries and charging circuit, eBay it goes.

since you have diodes in the supercap circuit, a coin cell should be able to keep it alive ?? unless you powerdown your meter for long times ?   and drains out the cell or the charging battery you tried

but a rechargeable battery in this circuit need more parts at least an resistor in serial  or something not to overcharge this battery ??
