I don't think calibration is required after an update, unless the firmware you are updating from would necessitate it (very early revision). I updated my 289 from 1.13 and didn't require a calibration.

Yea shouldnt require an new calibration.
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success!

i just updated my 287 and had no problem so far after updating the firmware from 1.12 version...the accuracy remains the same..thanks to fluke..
if ever you found something bad with your meter after updating please tell us..

Real (cheapass) engineers don't like paying 50€ or 70 $ for FTDI chip and 2 IR diodes  ;)
Hey Nermash (or anyone), do you reckon, in theory that a similar homemade cable based on Silicon Labs CP210x would work on my 287?  Not having any luck, firmware app won't connect, and can't see anything with serial comms software (e.g. Hyperlink).  Cable works 100% fine on my Scopemeter 196.

I am not sure, I have tried my IR cable with cheapo PL2303 clone, and it dind't work. Anyway, here is where I got the schematic and other things, it is chinese forum, but pictures are OK :)

One important thing it that with 287/289 IR TX must be inverted.
