Fluke 287 or 289 conditions inside

Hi guys

what do you prefer

Fluke 287 completely new made in the USA, manufactured in February 2022 for €440

or

Fluke 289 manufactured in 2011 very little use (some small dirty stain)  made in the USA manufactured in 2011 for €440

for 100% electronic bench work

I already have 1  177 and 1  87V

My vote is the 287.  No supercap to worry about, will have a fresh calibration and of course is new.

Now what about the extra features with the 289?  Well, your 87V has the 1kHz filter, but the LoZ and 50 Ohm range could be handy in rare cases.  Personally I would use a 4-wire setup for low resistance measurements and LoZ can be handled easily enough with a simple resistor.

You said 100% electronics bench work, so the obvious question is why not a bench meter?

I had 2 bench multimeters and I sold them, too much space, I have kept a fun OWON XDM1041 that I am happy with.

I have a strange "attraction" for handheld multimeters and not for bench ones

The more I think about it, I think that 287 also convinces me...ummmh

I have both of them. The 289 was made in 2016 and the 287 in 2022. Both are rarely used so cosmetically not different. I have them both so no decision but I think I would keep the 289 if I have to let 1 go.

With bench use in mind, will either come with calibration data?  When I purchased my new 287, it came with a verification report from Fluke, which is a great credibility booster.

If you do 100% electronic bench work you probably will never need low-impedance and low-ohms functions. (both functions on this meter is for troubleshooting industrial electric motors)
