TEK DM501 multimeter
« on: December 12, 2021, 03:16:36 pm »
Please help with DM501 repair. It worked normally about 2 years ago. It will now display a random number and a decimal point when turned on. The display does not respond, only the decimal point switches when changing ranges. The display shows, for example, -1.0480 when -1 is constantly lit and the decimal point with the rest flashes. I don't have pulses on transformer T300, anode CR310. Pin 9 U310B has a correct 5Hz rectangle, but it no longer passes through the C310. The transformer, diode and capacitor are OK.I would insert the diagram, but I don't know how. Thank you very much in advance for any help!

Could you post how you repaired it, so you can at least help future people having the same problem?

When I repaired my DM502, it had a shorted tantalum capacitor.

That is an odd one to fail.  The others of the same type might be marginal from old age.

Still to find faults. I highly recommend the digital oscilloscope! I never saw very narrow needle pulses on the analog ...

Ordinary shop, maybe ges.cz

I did not use the exact same battery size.
Only the same voltage, ie the number of cells.

(It was just better than a completely dead battery.)
