E-Load Kunkin KP184 vs East-Tester ET5420, Accuracy ADC DAC??
« on: August 30, 2020, 07:59:39 pm »
Hi, I'm trying to choose between these two Electronic Loads Kunkin KP184 vs East-Tester ET5420
the Kunkin looks very robust slightly dated perhaps and has lots of online information regarding manufacturing issues
whereas the ET5420 seems to be newer with a simplified PCB design and I just wondered if it has the accuracy of the Kunkin

Does anyone know what DAC & ADC the ET5420 uses? or Does it rely on the 12bit DAC & ADC inside the STM?
the specs listed by vendors on AliExpress show identical resolution values of 0.05% for both units (voltage & current) so i can't distinguish

Kunkin KP184,
Single channel, 0-150V, 400W
STM32F030C8
ADC AD7799 24bit
DAC MCP3421 18bit, DAC8831I 16bit

East-Tester ET5420,
Dual channel 0-150V, 200W
STM32F103
ADC ??
DAC ??

Got the Kunkin KP184, board ver04.
One difference that does mean something for me, between those two loads, is that there is no sense input in the ET5420.
That could mean something for its accuracy.

Also seen a thread in here for ET5420  https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/east-tester-et5410-et5420-et5411-et54-series-software/ you could ask them.

I am also trying to pick an electronic load and have similar concerns about the East Tester - would definitely like a sense input.

However in it's favor the East Tester does have a 500V option for a little more money, which is quite attractive for me (I am working on a PFC design), and a front mounted power switch (the lack of which seems kinda insane on the Kunkin given there is room there!)
The other possibility I found is a "Dingchen" DCL6104(A), again with a 500V option (the A model) but also again without many reviews etc. Any comments on either the Dingchen or East Tester from someone who has one would be welcome.

Finally given you're in the UK it's worth looking at the Tenma loads from CPC/Farnell (use the former for better pricing) - they do a rebrand of the 300W Korad load for 222 GBP inc VAT.

Hi, thanks for your comments
yes, you were quite right the ET5420 doesn't have external sense but i did plan on modding it. I still haven't found any further detail.
Dingchen DCL6104(A) i hadn't come across this one before, the spec sheet looks similar to the kunkin kp184 but with a TFT display and no external sense, but interesting nonetheless.
But your suggestion of the Tenma brand from CPC the spec looks better, it has better measurement tolerance, LAN for comms, one years warranty and requires no mods.
Kunkin KP184, needs stripped and modified as suggested by several people.

Head says Tenma but the heart says Kunkin because i like doing mods
