Repair of a Fluke 87 lll
« on: June 05, 2023, 12:12:57 pm »
Hi,
I have a Fluke 87 lll that had over voltage AC applied.
I checked all the MOVs and they seem fine.
Any experience fixing an 87 lll that had too much voltage applied?
 What should I look at?
                   Thanks, Mikek

What does it do now? It doesn't power up? Overvotage AC applied how high was the voltage and in which mode the meter was in?

How much is "too much"?

What should I look at?

If it powers on and responds then try removing the two clamping transistors to see what happens.

The company I work for had a number of 87III and they tend to have problem with the display. None had any other problems.

Turn it into Ohms and do you see OL on the screen? If not, check the varistors.

Does the display still work but it just reads zero?
Check the series input resistor. I think it's a fusible type.

It turned out to be one MOV that was defective.
