Teledyne Lecroy Wave Runner (M)Xi Upgrades WRXI WRMXI series

Hello to all, i have upgraded my 64XI  Cel1,3 CPU, to Pentium M780 2,26 (2M), I bring it to run on 133FSB,  and it runs much faster than
1,3 (512K)x100Celeron. And add the 1Gb memory.

But there is some fault, the BIOS do not know about this CPU, and the Windows have to install different HAL (MPS Uniprocessor PC) that not support ACPI. And the scope did not powers off automatically. This upgrade is useful for the whole 42 to 204(M)Xi series.

Problems with ACPI can be resolved with adding the CPU microcode to BIOS, but i have no such experience with BIOS modding.

Maybe someone have, and can help?? It will be great  improve.

Sounds like a lot of fuss to absolutely run the fastest Dothan CPU...  I think the first gen mobo’s were ordered by LeCroy (to BCM) before those late Dothan’s came out, in 2005.
I think to recall having successfully used a 400MHz FSB Dothan, (those ending with a 5).

Honestly, I doubt the difference with a 1.8GHz Pentium M will justify that... the difference between the standard Celeron M 320 and a Pentium M 1.8 is indeed significant (together with some ‘fast’ and low latency 1GB module), but above that, the perceived benefits are likely to be barely noticeable...

(1800 + 400) X 1.33 worked with "for 100Mhz" standard memory timings, it's really works fast..

Yes, that’s what the math says... but I’d be curious to see ‘real-life’ benchmarks, I’m not an unconditional  friend of Passmark, but there the difference is below 10%, which makes it barely noticeable by an end-user.

Hello!
I upgraded my WaveRunner 104MXi and now I will describe it.

Original:
  • motherboard BCM MX855 (in cmd.exe 'wmic baseboard get product' return i855-w83627)
  • CPU Intel Celeron M Processor 320 (Banias, 512K Cache, 1.30 GHz, 400 MHz FSB, 130 nm, marking SL6N7)
  • RAM 512MB DDR 333 (Apacer)
  • HDD

I bought several CPU for the price of a bottle of beer. These are LS7EG (Dothan, 2 MB cache, 1.60 A GHz, 400 MHz FSB), SL7SA (Dothan, 2M Cache, 1.73 GHz, 533 MHz FSB), SL7EN (Dothan, 2M Cache, 1.80 GHz, 400 MHz FSB). All processors worked on my installation. Based on benchmarks I chose SL7EN.
The new RAM cost me $2.5.

At the same time, I changed the processor fan to a new one (60x60x10, 12V, 1.6W). The old fan was making unpleasant sounds; the lubricant from the bearings was completely used up.
To replace the CPU you need to deinstall the motherboard, the nuts are on the underside of the PCB.
