Well that sucks - did they at least send you something good? :)

It's a 5063-1700 2.4mm bulkhead connector. : )

I will give it a try for sure and report back. The replacement part arrived from keysight today, but they sent me the completely wrong part. (Wrong part #, wrong everything, even though the enclosed invoice specifies the correct part number and name.)

SO..... back on the phone with them. I am glad their service was excellent last time.

That's obnoxious, sorry to hear that!

I ordered a replacement SMPS.... it's halfway here already.

Maybe once your scope is back up and running with your new PSU you should take a shot at fixing the old one anyway so you have a spare in case this happens again? Should be a fairly straightforward fix...

Oh how annoying.... Hopefully they'll get it right second time. My experience so far of their customer service here in the UK has been very good so hopefully they'll rectify their error quickly for you.
I have a weakness for Test Equipment so can often be found having a TEA break (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/test-equipment-anonymous-(tea)-group-therapy-thread/)

Woohoo,  you're not kidding... that's worth almost 6 SMPS for my scope.

That should help get the FedEx's flowing !

YES !!!

The SMPS arrived today.

Keysight was kind enough to send me a prepaid FEDEX label to get their wrong part back to them.

My 3000X, having walked through the valley of internal-shooting-SMPS-flames, lives again. I am going to get a $150/year repair plan immediately.

Mike

Daniels interactions here was one of the reasons I chose to go with Keysight for my scope.

Same goes with Tautech for my SA

Faceless companies are not very appealing to deal with.

150$ per year is certainly a no-brainer.

Wish the rep agreement for some of their other gear was like that :P

Edit: autocorrect accident.

My mistake! $120/yr, an even more obvious no-brainer.

When I reinstalled my scope on the bench shelf, I noticed that the combination of my bench power supply, Agilent and Rigol scopes all next to each other were making quite a bit of heat. Plus the shelves are not ventilated, they are solid wood. The heat was building up. This may have led to the death of the scope eh?

I installed 100mm computer fans at each end of the row of equipment so it's blowing fresh air behind the whole group of equipment. It's made a very big difference, subjectively anyway.

Hi @mclemens1969

Turned on my scope tonight (MSO-X-3024A) and I seem to have gotten the exact same failure, a crack, and a nasty magic-smoke type smell... makes you wonder if there is a design issue here. Anyway, I am well outside warranty so I was wondering what you paid for the replacement PSU?

Thanks
Gerry

Usually these power supplies are easy to repair.
I had one failure where just one power resistor was broken.
