I recently purchased a Rigol scope and wanted to find out if I had the latest firmware.  I searched the Rigol website but couldn't find any firmware downloads or information about the latest version available.  I contacted Rigol directly and was told that they didn't post that information but depended upon customers to call in with inquiries - which seemed a bit odd.   I was told that the latest version was 4.0 and that they would email the necessary files to me.   After a bit of trouble getting a usb drive to be recognized, I found a FAT32 formatted drive that worked.  I used the instructions they sent to update the scope.  What I haven't been able to find out is what changes were made from version 3.01 to 4.0.   It seems like that's a major version upgrade so there should be some new features or performance.   Does anyone happen to know what changes were made in this version upgrade?   Thanks.

Just write them on e-mail and ask for firmware.

We should ask them for a changelog. I think the should at least publish the changelog so people can ask for the firmware via email and see if their particular bug was fixed.

About a month ago someone made a topic about the DS1102E having an erratic white flashing screen. It had to do with the cursors being enabled on the FFT and left on. He said Rigol told him a correction was in the works but that thread disapeared I think. I can't find it anymore. Maybe he deleted it?

I also had issue with reference waveforms becoming a big white band and then crashing the scope. Rigol support told me I had the latest version. I am pretty sure it was 3.xx something

Blimey! I have a genuine DS1102E which looks to be running s/w 00.02.06 (is that 2.06?)

A jump to V4.something must be pretty special! Having said that, I find no fault with the instrument, at present.  If it ain't borke, don't break it? |O

I'd be interested in finding out what the changes are, though. Can anyone who finds this info, post it here?

Way back when many were upgrading their DS1052E to the 100Mhz spec I was told by a Rigol rep that the 2.04 firmware was considered, by Rigol, to be stable and not in need of any major changes. The changes that followed were related to better USB hardware compatibility in FW 2.05 plus various 'housekeeping' changes that actually seemed to be attempts to prevent DS1052E upgrades ! Rigol continued to issue new firmware versions incorporating different techniques to prevent upgrading of the scopes to higher specs. The DS1052E can be upgraded to a 150MHz version and I suspect the DS1102E is no different in that respect. It would appear that a recent major firmware change occurred due to new hardware in the DSO. If you read the Dummy's guide to upgrading the DS1052E on this forum you will find more detail there.  To date I have not seen or heard of any significant improvements in performance or function since firmware 2.04 and that firmware is very stable indeed. I advise against upgrading to later firmware unless you are sure that you can step back to your current older version if you find issues with the new fw.

DS1102E purchased 8/8/13 shows software version 4.01.

Only glitch detected so far is when in alternate trigger mode, the CSV file has all the same time values. Plotting it gives you a vertical line!

Have a big issue with the probes.  They have a 30% hump in frequency response in the 20-70 MHz range.  RIGOL claims this is within specs.  Yeah right.  They display the voltage to three digits but it could be off by 30%.   Some eBay 150 MHz probes have moved this hump 30 MHz higher in freq.

The vertical amp frequency response is fine with a -3db bandwidth of 118 MHz.
