CEM DT-9987 vs Extech GX900
« on: July 03, 2015, 08:02:45 am »
Those two multimeters appear to be the same internally, however there's a big gap in price. Is the CEM a chinese copy or are you confident to buy it and expect the same precision and reliability?

CEM Instruments is the OEM for many manufacturers including Extech.  So the Extech is likely the copy here.

PS. Martin Lorton has the GX900, but has done no review or teardown on it yet.

I happened to check availability in the USA
CEM DT-9987 is not available here.  And they have no plans to do so.
Extech looks to be the only option here and it might be due to an OEM deal CEM and Extech have.

It's curious that the android app for the Extech has higher score on google play than the most CEM apps, some even have 1 star.

GX900 ExView for Android
CEM Software

I've tried several languages for GX900 ExView and Meterbox iMM and can't see which country the comments come from. Weird that CEM gets such low ratings for its software, must have lot of issues.
