Power Designs Power Supplies Database
« on: November 26, 2019, 03:58:46 am »
There have been some discussions about creating a database containing reference information regarding the linear power supplies produced by Power Designs, Inc. Please see the original thread on the topic for background.

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/looking-for-goodinexpensive-bench-power-supply/

While the original thread was largely focused on the "precision" models, there is considerable interest in the forum in tracing out a better history of the company. To this end, we are asking for the contributors to the original precision thread, as well as those who have yet to contribute, to provide information about their units that we can collate. Barbouri's model in the prior thread was a good one, as he included the serial numbers, the geographically-tagged logos, and preponderance of the dates of internal components, as well as other pertinent information. If you have a variant that doesn't look like the other pictures, we want to know that also; some of them have been repaired and/or modified, some are actual factory production variants, and the latter distinctions are likely important to putting together the pieces of the PDI puzzle.

Here's the format Barbouri used in the prior thread, and I think it's a good one to emulate, but of course the info is good any way you wish to provide it:

Model        Serial #     Component Date       Status                       Location           Logo         Other
6050D       803035             1987                Operational                Westbury, NY   pd            Full re-cap
6150         410074             1984                Operational                NY / CA           pd            Partial re-cap
2005A       906027             1969                Operational                Westbury, NY   pd            Replaced C3
6050C       705017             1987                Operational                Westbury, NY   pd            Modified display, replaced C8
6050C       705038             1987                Operational                Westbury, NY   pd            Modified display, replaced C8
C500         605008             1985                Operational                Westbury, NY   pd            Original caps

In the last thread some of the schematics were dated and from those we can also deduce when manufacturing may have begun for a given model. Another helpful piece of information might be the older cal stickers on the instruments, as we can then narrow down the individual date of manufacture further. Finding out how long some of the units were in production may be difficult, partially because there are so many variants even among models with the same designation. I am including all the models referenced in the prior thread below and current listings on auction sites, although they are not in chronological order yet. This temporary layout is so you can easily spot a model you own that isn't listed, is incorrectly listed, or needs to be added.

Thanks for starting this thread, Johnboy. Having a list of all these model numbers is rather dangerous for the wallet. :-DD

I'll update this post when I've collected info on my supplies.

Hi, I realize this is an old thread but I'd like to add mine. TP340 serial # 408438. 1984 date coded parts inside.

Has a fault light currently, I'm working on recapping and will test it once I find a manual for it.
I need more Axial electrolytics.......
Please be patient, I barely understand tubes!

I think this is your service manual.
A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

Not in the above listing is the triple output TP-330 which is similar to the TP-325 with a 0 to 15 volt third output instead of the 325's 0 to 6 volt output.

Model   Serial #   Component Date   Status         Location      Logo    Other
TP-330  004007    1979                Operational     NY / CA       pd       Full re-cap electrolytics
