Buying HVP70 — Alternate Suppliers?
« on: September 12, 2022, 04:24:42 am »
There’s a known quirk in the EEVblog Store that prevents shipping items to South Korea (where I live). I’m needing the HVP70, but can’t find it except for the EEVBlog Store. Any tips? Yes I can ship it to the US and then have a freight forwarding company send it to me, but that’s such a hassle involving extra expense and, more importantly, time.

I'm not aware of anyone having a 70MHz version of the Sapphire probes, not sure how Dave managed that exactly--25 => 70MHz is a big improvement!  The 25MHz version is sold under many names, including the Probemaster 4232 (which is out of stock right now  :-\  ) and the similar, IMO better, 4231 20:1 version (which is available, $335US).
A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

I may have gotten a break. Since the last couple of times I wanted to order from the EEVBlog store, and couldn't, the Korean forwarding company I use (from US to Korea) seems to have added an Australian option. There is one detail I need to confirm, but that may be the easiest solution.

I can’t win for losing. So apparently if I ship it to the freight forwarding service in Australia, I still have to pay $46 Australian goods and services tax (despite the fact that it will never be used in Australia).

If you're exporting, you can claim the GST back.  Not sure what's involved, but it will require some form-filling.

In my searching, I found they used to be available on Amazon, at least in the US and UK, and later someone called Simon's Electronics in the UK. All these are gone now.

Yeah, I'm sure I can. That's going to be a huge headache, dealing with a Korean company with my less-than-stellar Korean language ability. Not impossible, but a huge deterrent. I would probably ship it via the US before dealing with that. But I was really trying to get a direct shipment, because of time -- I could really benefit from having it on a current project. Oh well...

Just to clarify, from chatting with Dave about this before, it's not his fault. He uses DHL (as I recall) and for some bizarre reason, they won't ship from Australia to South Korea, at least not in connection with the online shopping store.

Really Chris, why must it be a HVP70 ?  :-//

If Dave can't go outta his way to supply you I'm very sure the chaps at Pintek in Taiwan can, just 1000km from you.
Have a look at their offerings and I'm sure they will have something that suits your needs.

They'll either DHL or FedEx to us in NZ no worries.
You'll probably deal with Danny and be sure to tell him Rob in NZ sent you.

Any idea how long these guys take to respond?
I’m having a rough time buying this (I’m getting an DP-60HS until Dave can sort out shipping to SK). The NZ distributor was a bit odd, and gave off some really bad vibes. I finally cancelled that order because they couldn’t accept payment from a local and were acting peculiar. Found it by chance at a Korean distributor last night. Places my order (paid) and it was cancelled this morning for reasons yet unknown. Emailed Pintek Taiwan yesterday for a quote and still no reply — but it’s only been 24 hours. I’m just impatient 8-).

Sapphire probes are also sold under Testec and Pico brands, which you can get via mainstream distribution (eg Farnell etc) and presumably ship to your location. Maybe they don't have the 70Mhz version though.
