TEK 7A19
« on: June 16, 2019, 05:18:16 pm »
Hello. I would like to ask if the 7A19 plugin is compatible with TEK 7603 (7633). I have a problem that they don't match the vertical range. Thanks.

Yes, it is compatible even though the 7A19 has 600MHz bandwidth and the 7603 is only 100MHz bandwidth. But note that the 7A19 is a 50 ohm impedance input. That could be the source of your measurement errors if the device feeding the 7A19 is loaded down by that 50 ohm input.

I use the 7A19 in my 7904A exclusively either with a transmission line or with a P6201 active (FET) probe, which is designed to be terminated in 50 ohms.

The 600 MHz 7A19 should work fine in any of the 100 MHz 7600 mainframes.  The Tektronix catalogs even show this configuration because the 7A19 was the only 50 ohm variable sensitivity amplifier until the 7A24 came out 2 years later so if you wanted a 50 ohm input without a feedthrough termination, the 7A19 is what you used.

When calibrating with PG506, only the 0.1V range corresponds to 7A19. On other ranges, the amplitude on the CRT 7603 does not match the applied voltage from the PG 506.

Then you'll have to determine if the issue is the plug-in or the mainframe. The best way to do this is via substitution. Do you have another vertical plug-in that you can try? That way you can quickly determine which unit has a problem.

7A26 behaves correctly. So the problem is clearly in 7A19. If I select a 0.1V sensitivity at 7A19 and change the output level from PG506, the CRT display is correct and the amplitude changes and responds. On the other ranges 7A19 is the amplitude that does not match the voltage of PG 506. Perhaps I wrote it clearly.

It seems apparent you have attenuator issues with the 7A19. Probably due to application of excess signal. There is a limiter circuit with fuses. I would check them. A copy of the manual is available here:

In attenuator, all attenuators are tested, measured, and OK. If I select 0.1V, everything is OK, other ranges are wrong.
