Hello everyone,
I've been making do with cheap PSU cludges for years and want to finally get a good, versatile PSU.
Aside from general electronics and radio, I am interested in vacuum tubes, magnetic amplifiers, and motor drives. Multiple outputs and a wide range of voltage and current options will probably be very useful to me.
The two PSU's that look most appealing to me right now are the Aim-TTI MX100Q(P) and R&S HMP4040. EEVblog covered the HMP series very well (I was attracted immediately by the beautiful toroid transformer) and there was a fine review thread from MarkL on the MX100TP, which is probably similar to the Q.
However I haven't been able to find any good firsthand info on the MX100Q specifically. If anyone has used this model I'd be very grateful for impressions and comparisons.
So far it seems to me that:
MX100Q Pros: Very good price at Tequipment, very versatile (i.e 5V for digital, 6V high current for heaters, 70V+70V=140V plate), nice looking interface.
Cons: Little info, limited documentation, not programmable (P version is ~$500 more), complex ranges and some configurations might not work as I imagine.
HMP4040: Identical rails mean no surprises. Quality looks exceptional, better regulation on paper, massive current output, programmable, limited arb output (sadly won't generate line frequency--but still looks very useful)
Cons: lower max voltage output, doesn't show both selected and measured output simultaneously, higher price.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts and suggestions.
