Agilent/Keysight MSO7104B - Access via Web Browser
« on: January 13, 2019, 04:07:06 pm »
I am using Windows 10 64 bit and can get to the start page of my scope by entering the IP address into a Chrome web browser and I can then select the Browser Web Control tab which appears no problem. But when I click on the  'Remote Front Panel' link, it gives the screen shown saying "Failed to start the Remote Front Panel applet. Java is disabled."

Java IS enabled in Chrome so why doesn't it work?

Well I tried installing Java for IE11 and sort of got it to work; after adding the IP address of my scope to the Java exception list in the Java Control Panel, accepting all the warnings about it not being an https: address, it came up as a postage stamp size screen in the middle of my 4k display!

Sigh.

Now I'm fighting with the DPI settings on the compatibility tab as pointed to in this article https://superuser.com/questions/988379/how-do-i-run-java-apps-upscaled-on-a-high-dpi-display

Which has worked for other programs like Code Composer Studio.  So far I've tried java.exe and javaaw.exe but it's still the same, tiny screen that is fixed pixels resolution in center of screen.

Java really sucks
It took me once several hours to get a Keysight scope browser interface working.
At the end it came down to the correct exception configuration!

I don't have Java installed anymore.

I played with this when  still had an MSO7104A. I quickly realised the remote access is built on outdated technology. Using VNC and learning the keyboard shortcuts is probably the best option.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Can you expand on that comment a bit?  I have raised a query on the Keysight forum but I've solved the actual access problem, the  issue now is scaling on a 4k display.

[EDIT] So I downloaded VNC Viewer and installed, then I was able to connect to MSO7104B and resizing the window scaled the scope picture up so that's the scaling issue solved. But the little control icons at the left (see post above) aren't there. Is this what you meant by keyboard shortcuts to work the scope via the VNC client and, if so, any idea where I can find info on those?

Thanks to all who gave suggestions.

Hello,

the Remote Front Panel shows the key shortcuts.
Perhaps your MSO7104B has the same shortcuts as the DSO6104L

If I see it right you can not control all feature of the scope.

Duh! Thanks for that egonotto.  If you look at the picture in my second post in this thread you'll see that the window that is generated by clicking on the 'remote front panel' link gives some controls to the left of the scope screen although they are small and hard to see to the the 4k scaling problem.  If I could figure out what was being called to put that pop up panel on the display, I might be able to figure out how to solve the DPI issue.

Hello,

I don't know why you need the access via Web Browser.

But perhaps you can use the Microsoft Magnifier.

Or you can use the Remote Programming with SCPI commands.

Best regards
