HP 859xE preset softkey numbers
« on: June 09, 2017, 06:40:41 pm »
Searched high and low for this.... Anyone know of a document that lists the softkey numbers for 859xE SA preset soft keys. I'm looking for the number for "Track Gen". Or, perhaps there is a function that will return the code for the key that is pressed? Any clues appreciated.

Thx,
Ron

Sorry for not understanding but aren't the softkeys the 6 to the right of the CRT? They should just be numbers 1-6 starting from the top I think.

Or are you after what specific command is associated with a specific softkey?

I had an 8591E but not tracking gen so I'm not familiar with the TG commands.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding how it works so let me explain what I want to do....   I want to assign a different function to an existing command that's predefined. In this case the "Tracking Gen" command under the AUX CTRL menu. It's my understanding that every such command has an integer assigned to it which is used to reference programmatically.

Thanks,
Ron

Hmm - I know you can create menus under the Meas/User button but I don't think you can take an existing menu item on any arbitrary menu and replace it. At least I've never heard of this being done nor have I seen a programming example showing it.

Clicking notify on this thread in case you can actually do this.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Ok, figured this out. You CAN redefine preset softkey. The challenge is you must find the menu number of the preset softkey you wish to define because they don't seem to be documented in any of the readily available docs. In this case the AUX CTL menu is #52 (which I'll explain how I found later). to redefine a specific softkey in that menu the formula is menu# -1 * 6 + softkey#  . In this case it's 52 -1 * 6 +2 = 308  and then use the KEYDEF command with that key number.

Cheers,
Ron
