Anyone have experience with Uni-T power supplies?
« on: September 14, 2023, 11:31:09 pm »
Hi. I was looking for good programmable PSU and i really like Uni-T ones because they have more power compared to similar priced Siglent models (3.2A per channel, and 5A per channel for uni-t). I know that they make good DMMs but i dont know if they PSU are worth buying, and that are quality products. What do you think?  Cheaper one is priced about 230 EUR and more expensive one 390EUR

I have no experience with the specific models you show, but I do have a UDP3305S which I like very much.

See also https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/uni-t-udb3000s-series-udp3305s-udp3000s-e/ and https://techbotch.org/blog/lab-power-supply/index_en.html for more information.

The UDP3305S-E is about 440€ so just slightly more pricey than one of the models you found and it has a keypad which is an important convenience for me. Oh – and as you are in Croatia, you can buy from Chiopoteka where the S-E is 390€ right now.

Thank you. That is good price. My main concern about UNI-T is quality, noise and accuracy. So if you dont mind telling us a little about it and how much time do you have it and use it? Because, considering the price it is really good deal.

What defines quality in your opinion?

Well, I believe the UDP3000S series was introduced at some point in 2022. So nobody will know how long it's going to last. And I have yet to see a computer controlled device that is free of bugs. However, I haven't found any except for a typo – but I'm sure there will be more. That's why I was keen on ensuring the firmware could be updated.

I am using an older model UNI-T power supply for hobby projects. It's as simple as it gets but it does the job. Quality wise, the knobs on mine are not the best but the case itself is good quality for what I paid. I also have a multimeter for home use since 10 years, it's a UNI-T UT33C. I still use it to this day and it's very reliable.
My personal opinion is that they do good stuff for the price you pay and I consider it hobby equipment.

I find the quality of Uni Trend products quite variable, and it seems to depend on which design centre developed it. So knowing one product is well designed doesn't tell you much about the surrounding ones.

In my experience, many Chinese companies will be happy to serve you at almost any price point –  but they are not stupid and you will get what you pay for.

Understand. But this PSU is not cheap. Comparable model is Siglent one. It cost the same but Uni-T have 1.8A more per channel. So i think Uni-T PSU is not cheap. I get what i payed for.

That is more basic PSU but looks nice. This one should be for professional use but only for repair jobs.

If you already got it, please let us know what is your first impression. As I said, I'm really happy with mine with my current use-case. It cost me around 60 euros 5 years ago and it's still going strong.

I think you are confusing quality with functionality. I have used cheap Uni Trend PSUs that are pretty basic - analogue control, no programmability, no display. etc. - but of decent quality.

I bought it. First impression is great. Quality and feel seems great. Outstanding. Also, very heavy device. But these are just first impressions.

It is cheapest in this shop in Croatia. In other places like eleshop is 450 EUR.
Only disadvantage is when channel is off it shows -0.2 volts which doesnt matter. Or does it?

Looks like it has lots going for it. No weird behaviour when plugged in / plugged out? This is where PSUs typically tend to fail. Also good to have a keypad to enter numbers; much easier. Twisty knobs on power supplies are so 1980.
