Any experience with a cheap 10MHz current probe on Aliexpress?
« on: December 23, 2015, 03:09:23 pm »
Hi all, I was looking for low cost current probes to do some experiments with stepper and BLDC motors.

I found this on Aliexpress, has anyone bought one? I couldn't find any information online.

10MHz BW seems a tad optimistic.

Any experts want to contribute their thoughts?

I don't see a low frequency specification, which does not give me great confidence.

I dont know...
But for motor drives, you could probably also live with a LEM LA55-P or similar transducer, these have about 200Khz of BW and are fairly accurate.
Its not a clamp but i think its not too hard to use on motor cables or such.

Thanks for the part number! I wasn't aware of those. They might be even better as they can measure DC.

You could also have a look at the sensors by Sensitec:

Be careful, it seems there are some fake CP-02B probes
Ali seller newswan03 "Newswan Tool & Instrument 03 Store"

Wow!  :wtf:
That is just a piece of scrap PCB cut to size to hold the resistor in place.  :scared:
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

...

Sadly, I'm not sure that one is actually fake.  It's the AC only version of several of these CP-XX probes being sold by the same seller.  All the AC/DC variants (CP-07s) sell for much more, and have been discussed here for a while.  The CP-07s are mediocre at best, hand-built units.  I've got one and its ok.
