Altronics Power Supply M8305

Hey Guys,

New to the EEVBlog forum and am wondering if anyone has had any experience with the 30V 5A variable power supply that is sold by Altronics (http://www.altronics.com.au/p/m8305-powertran-30v-5a-regulated-bench-top-power-supply/).

It is currently discounted from $189AUD to $130AUD (until November 30) and I would like to purchase one but I can't find any reviews / teardowns of it anywhere on the web.

Does anyone own one? Are you happy with it?

I'm just beginning to setup an electronics lab and am looking for something fairly basic (but not nasty no-name eBay specials).

Any opinions would be appreciated.

I have one, but ...

Regulation is poor.
Response is slow.
Voltage hunts at low current.
Current indication is non linear at low current, OK elsewhere. Voltage OK.
Display shows actual current, not set current limit.
Course/fine adjustment is inconvenient.

Only advantage is its easier to lug around than the Rigol DP831.

Looks like one of those cheap Chinese supplies you get under different brand names, usually at a lower price. Like the slightly larger brother of this one:

I am pretty happy with the Korad KA3005P or D.  There was a teardown on eevblog and it failed badly, but Korad fixed the problems.  However, I haven't done any serious performance testing other than turning it up and shorting the crap out of it and making sure the output doesn't overshoot on recovery (common problem on switch mode units)

I'm desperate for a variable PSU as well. 

My DIY's just don't cut it and I need one now (actually 3 weeks ago).   Be interested to see how this goes, I missed out some resent HP PSUs (HP 224B) on fleabay...damn!.  This units looks similar to the Korad KA3005P.

Upon inspection...its the PS3005D which is the earlier version of the Korad.   I think there were grumblings about this earlier versions.

According to the guy at Aztronics in Adelaide, Wavecom re-brand the PS3005D but he was unsure who was the original manufacturer. I going in to pick one up this week.

Jeez I'm liking this Power Supply. Could do with more memory settings though.  Been using to to test TECs at various voltages continuously up to 3.5A for 2 days...no issues at all.

Opened it up to have a look...well made same as Korda unit KA3005D.  A few non cleaned solder joints but very nice indeed!  Oh I had to cable zip tie the input 230V wires away from the side panel screws, they were on the screws.  Pretty anal I know but I'm like that.

All said and done....I love it...but secretly wished I had the dosh for a slightly up-rated unit or one with dual or triple output.  Currently have this PSU doing tests, another running 3V and another for 12V.....sigh!

Purchased mine yesterday and am very happy with it. The only thing I have noticed is that it displays only the set voltage not the actual voltage. However it displayed the actual current.

probably in constant voltage (CV) mode where voltage is set and current is what is drawn.
