HP 34401A screen display connector
« on: January 12, 2021, 07:41:52 pm »
1.  What is the trick to removing this connector?    I thought you pressed backwards on it but mine isn't coming off and I don't want to break it.

2.  Does anyone know the part# for the connector.   I'd like to make an extension cable so I can have the display pcb powered but relocated away from the unit (for debugging).

normally you press/ push it down toward the pcb to release the flat cable while "still pressed/pushed"   sometimes the connectors pins seems stuck with the flat cable,  while pushed  try to gently very gently  move it left to right,   mine got unstuck and was working fine.

normally the cable is long enough to do debugging ???

I would like to make an extension,  so if anyone is able to answer the question asked I would appreciate the info.   Thanks!

Original is obsolete IIRC but I used Molex 52147-1210 to replace it in one of my instruments, its drop-in replacement. Seem to be NRND now so get yours while still available.

Thank you.

Digi-Key states the following.  So yes, worth buying a couple just in case the one on your meter ever has an issue.

Part Status: End of Life; Last Time Buy Date: 6/21/2021.

You don't have to replace the connector like with like. The Molex push-in-the-wire connectors are very prone to bad connections and bent or broken cable wires. I replaced mine with a 2mm PCB header and a socket with crimp pins on the cable. RS sell them (RS numbers 779-3106, 779-2901 and 172-1786).
