conformal coating peircing probes
« on: June 03, 2015, 03:22:22 pm »
Hey guys,

At my job we use a conformal coating called huniseal, which I often need to get under to measure voltages and the like. A lot of people at my work basically solder razorblades unto the end of the probe making them quite large and difficult to work with. I was wondering if you guys knew of the best probes, without modification, that will poke through the coating. Right now I am just using regular fluke probes which mostly work well but require a lot of force to get through.

Thanks for your time,
Srscricket

I bought the Fluke TL80A probe kit for my 115. It includes a pair of alligator clips and stainless needle extensions.

The extensions are pretty sharp and I think it can pierce conformal coatings easily.

If you don't need a complete probe kit, I found this:

These probes have needle sharp points that should work well.  They also have a version without the safety shroud for older meters.
