Agilent 34405A USB connection
« on: September 04, 2015, 05:55:27 pm »
Try to do a Firmware update or connect a Agilent 34405A to Benchvue but without succes.

After trying 4 different computers ("try an older model pc, adviced on the Keysight forum")
Did I need a Windows XP machine? Somebody solve this problem allready?

Hi Ton,

have one at work, this device is a PITA. Unreliable USB for several years, crashing during a recommended update, a failure got USB cable getting hotter than reasonably possible(USB limit 5W, right?), 4th device exchange in  IDK, 5 years?

Throw it as far as you can. Sell it, get something nice.

The Agilent 34405A is NOT an Agilent development.
I also had one before and did not like it at all and got rid of it.

I've had issues with mine too, unreliable USB.
But after the latest firmware, it seems to be cured. The update took a few tries before it went without an error message.

The first update (years ago) messed up the serial number, but I don't care ::)

So my tip would be to keep trying to update the firmware. I had the Keysight IO Libraries Suite installed when I did this, not sure if that matters.
I tried several times before it suddenly worked, for no apparent reason.
