Deskew (phase align) Voltage and Current probes
« on: February 07, 2016, 08:18:33 pm »
All the scope manufactures seem to have them in various forms, but the prices vary considerably.
Keysights is around AU$810, Siglents (looking remarkably similar to keysights in function) is less than 1/2 the price at AU$370. Neither of them look like they should cost more than a few $ to build. LeCroys one at least looks like a proper product instead of a bare board.

I can't see why I can't use a siglent (or any 3rd party) source to deskew my probes.
What are people here using or recommend as best bang for the buck?

Yes of course you can use any similar calibration fixture for the job, but be aware the stated current and voltages of these fixtures is also an accuracy/sanity check for your probes.

The old Teks had a metal loop for the probe cal output that doubled as a current loop for checking current probes, some other scope cal outputs had a rated output (current) to scope GND for the same reason. However if you are confident with your setup and deskew is the only concern any capable AWG with a fast edge square wave and reasonable drive capability would serve your needs.

I've got one of the Siglent deskew units that I could do measurements on if there was something you'd like but I'm away from base until next week.
