Its true, once you start going volt-nutting, its hard to stop. Introducing my latest eBay find (not the 3458a):
The Advantest/ADCMT R6161 6 1/2 digit voltage and current source, at an order of magnitude less money than the current reseller prices

This unit has a 10nV step size at the lowest range, and can output up to +/- 1200V, with a 10nA-120mA current range.
