RTM3004 arrived with a dent on its shell
« on: May 12, 2020, 01:15:11 am »
Newark has this really good offer on RTM3004 at the moment ($3,200 for the base model) and since it was one of the couple of brands that I don't have anything from, I thought I order one to take advantage of it.

However as soon as I removed it from it's box I noticed a dent on its shell (bottom right corner). The box doesn't seem damaged so this is either a return that Neward resold as new, or it was damaged at the factory before getting packed.

I went ahead and sent an email to both Newark and Rohde & Scharz, but I am afraid they will try to shift the blame on me. Did anyone ever had a similar experience before? Any idea on how to proceed if I get a reply pushing back?

I wouldn't expect push back. That looks like a really bad hit though. Was it a demo unit or something?

No, I don't think it was a demo unit, it didn't mention anything.

Thanks for the encouragement, I hope they there isn't a push-back.

It would be very poor customer service if they don't take it back and exchange for new. I'd concentrate on dealing with Newark though because that is where you bought the unit from. Just don't give them any reason to doubt so be short and tell them you are going to send it back and expect it to be replaced. One sentence is enough; writing longwinded stories as some people tend to do is not good. Long stories just confuse the reader.

Just an update that the Newark folks were very helpful and a new one is already on its way.  :-+ to them

Well it looks like Newark did the right thing.  In these circumstances, I have used the credit card company to help me.  If the vendor messes me around, I tell them I'm going to call the CC company which often makes them fix the problem. If they don't, I call the CC company and file a complaint over the transaction.  By using a CC to pay for 100% of the purchase price, you have insurance for 90 days or so, even if you took it out of the box and dropped it.  They also typically double the manufacturers warranty period so, if it were to break after a 1 year warranty has expired, the CC company will pay for repairs.
If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer
