HP 53310a opt 030 vs 031
« on: May 19, 2020, 04:37:50 pm »
For the hell of it I'm considering buying a HP 53301a so I can have some new fun or frustration  and also if I can  use it. I've got 2 Rb studs and a dead HP 5061A which probably has a bad Cs tube.. I see that both include the fourth BNC on the bottom right corner and go to 2.5 GHz.  But other than 031 provide for digital RF communications, I can't understand what digital RF communications means and use.
Thanks

Option 30, Channel C, is included in Option 31. Here is the User's Guide for Option 31:

http://userequip.com/files/specs/826/HP%2053310A%20Opt.%2031%20User.pdf

It appears the main features from the manual are:
- Software to support some automatic measurements
- Internal downconverter for higher resolution measurements
- Increased sampling rate. Note: This appears to be 8 MHz. (This was 1992, after all.)

Here is the overall datasheet:

Thanks for the 2 links that I was unable to find.  Now I can forget about opt 030.
