What the hell do they do to test equipment over there? Chuck it at each other as a game?

It looks as if they pick up the left overs from practice demolition/bombing runs on labs...

You should stop now, Dave! This is getting to be like one of those SPCA "sad puppy" advertisements!  :(

surplustechmart is one of my fav. shops, they have always something interessting, lot of however somehow "mechanical damaged" but easy to fix (for hobby use).
Their pricing is however "random", you can score good things for almost nothing and real crap for a fortune.
I don't want to be human! I want to see gamma rays, I want to hear X-rays, and I want to smell dark matter ...
I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws and feel the solar wind of a supernova flowing over me.

I bought a E3615A from them that was listed as only outputting zero volts - it turned up working just fine. It did have a couple of chips in the plastic case but for 10% of retail price I'm not complaining.

I've bought some decent stuff from them before, including a VNA, but that collection looks very poor.

I just hope the pile of auction goodies I collect tomorrow is in better condition.

Some of the equipment has had a little less abuse, I would think that it is ex military, looks like its been in a war.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TEKTRONIX-466-100MHz-Two-Channel-Storage-Oscilloscope/181133953493?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D7795790469643272610%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D181133953493%26

I was looking at this tek scope, not sure that its worth the postage though.

Scopes and power supplies should always be purchased locally, especially the older stuff, due to heavy postage. If it was a 468B it might have been worth it for their insane resale value. Not hating Tek scopes btw as I personally have 2 older Tek scopes and love them dearly. I guess it never hurts to ask, however.

LOL! $25 AND they have had 3 offers!  :-DD  Just get rid of it already. Probably worth it for the knobs/switches to someone restoring a similar scope.

hey Dave

yup that seller is little bit  :blah: :blah: :blah: :-//

well there been one week since I began to work for the cal lab . I am astound from the IQ floating there ( the customers , not employees)

they send me little palm sized  Uni-T for calibration , WTF ? , that Uni-t cost few dolars , the calibration cost 3X more the meter himself !!!

Just today I've checked some 1.5KW Lambda supplies ,  they all didn't pass , one of them gave me -7V while the set voltage was 2V ! ( always turn your kikusui E-load off when enabling the PS output ! , you might stumble around supply who gives you negative voltage  :-DD  , and then poof your E-load 0_0 )

Dave - theres nothing to the country , the thing who gets me crazy is the stupide educational system , there are "EE" degrees everywhere ! , but they are so dumb  |O

today I actually hosted some guy how to use the scope  :wtf:
he freaking marked on the kobes the static position for the particular use (analogue scope of course ), he has degree but can't use scope ? 0_0 WTFFF ?

BTW , today I calibrated HP3458 , with the fluke 5700 , I set the thing to 10V . the 3458 says " 10.0000142V - that's 1.42ppm out , there was also keithley 2001 , I set it to 7.5Digt and he also showed 10.000014V ( aint it amazing ? )  so I told my boss that he ought to che?k that out , he must calibrate the fluke 5700 ASAP . NIST traceable of course ,

he might sell me that keithley for around 250$ ( yes I didn't forgotten one zero or so  :-+ )

he think thats old meter and so on ><"

who cares ! that's good meter ! , it'll be my reference for my lab ! ( I'll use it as 6.5Digit absolute value )

I really coursed out of topic there , sorry  :palm:

I guess I wanted to say that you perhaps right , I know too many abusers over here , and very small community who really know what's T&M's value   :--

I have bought a couple of very specialised parts from this supplier but then they were at the right price and condition was good. From the listings that I have seen the equipment appears to have had the standard 'Government scrap' policy applied to it....for those who do not know of such a policy...."anything that may assist the enemies of your Government must be put beyond use before disposal". I even have to concern myself in some troubled parts of the world with correct disposal of IT kit that could be harvested for IED manufacture  :scared:  I don't intend helping a terrorist any time soon. In Israel the same concerns are present but I will not get political here  ;)

Standard destruction tools include a club hammer, crow bar and chisel ! The items sold by this Israeli seller have all the hallmarks of being given attention with such tools. They are likely sold off as trashed scrap metal for pennies (Cents) per kg.

Still this seller is asking too much money. I tried to make a reasonable offer a few times but the answer was no. Not even a counter offer. I doubt this is decommisioned equipment. My guess would be it got dumped in a container and Surplustechmark is just dumpsterdiving. A few bangs with a hammer won't cut it to destroy something beyond use.

You need to shred it. Watch some Crapple products:

There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.
