Siglent SPD3303X/X-E change wish list
« on: May 27, 2023, 02:29:00 pm »
In my opinion there is one potentially serious flaw with these power supplies.

The all channel on/off switch does not work correctly.  If you have one or two channels on, pressing that button will turn on the remaining channels rather than switching off the ones that are already on.

It should only turn all outputs on if they are all off.  This would reduce the chance that something unexpected and potentially unpleasant will happen.

@tautech, is there an official channel for requesting firmware changes?

Now I have one out for PD checks….

I get your point and only wonder if the switching is via a micro where behaviour could be changed and after a look at the output PCB it appears it might be.
I’ll ask.

We need be clear about desired behaviour where IMO if any channel is ON the All button should turn it OFF.
Only when all channels are OFF will the All button turn them to ON.

Sound okay ?

As a sidenote, Rigol DP831/32 works this way:

If any combination of channels is ON, pressing ALL will shut them all OFF.

If no channels are enabled (ON state) then it will ask "Do you want to enable ALL channels?" and you need to press OK on buttons beneath the screen to enable them....

But that one has more buttons, including multifunction ones beneath the screen..

Seems to work the way we expect, or at least have now learned over time :o

With all CH OFF then a press ON/OFF turns them all ON, the next press turns them all OFF. If any CH is ON, a press turns them all ON, and another all OFF, so if any CH is ON the next press of ON/OFF turns them all ON.

The GPP-4323 works as 2N3055 describes with the Rigol.

See the point tho, this SPD behavior could easily confuse and lead to a problem, thanks BillyO for pointing this out :-+

Best,
This I believe is non-intuitive behaviour which could be improved if the HW design allows for it so I've asked for it to be modified if possible.

I discovered this dangerous behavior on my 3303X-E, as well. I vote for it to be corrected, also.

I would like to see consistency in the way the dual function buttons work and easier access to the store/recall of files/config.

For example the dual function buttons IP/Store and Lock/ver are inconsistent. I appreciate that a long press is a good idea to lock/unlock the controls, so given that we can't easily replace the thousands of existing buttons out there we would need to stick with the approach that a long press is used for the top function and a short press for the bottom function.
So this would mean a long press for the IP settings, but that's ok as they are rarely needed once set, and a short press to bring up the 'store' page.
The Store page is capable of much improvement.
I think File selection and Operation can be combined together. Rotate the knob to select the file and use the left/right buttons to change the operation (but default to 'Recall' rather than 'Store' as it should be the most common function). Then press the knob in to action the file operation.
This would save a lot of confusion for me and reduce the number of button presses to recall files.
