SDS1104X-E Tiny BUG
« on: September 03, 2023, 06:28:36 pm »
Just noticed a tiny bug in the Bode Plot display on the SDS1104X-E.

Strictly cosmetic.  Just looks a little weird and messy.  Instead of 2MHz it's showing 2.000000MHz.

Is it a bug or a "feature"?

Having 6 decimal places in the MHz range & 3 decimal places in the kHz range allows your start & stop frequencies to be input down to 1Hz resolution. Looks like it's always been done that way...

Well. if it's a "feature" it's one that requires a bit "salt" along with it.  It's fine to be able to set limits to the Bode plot to 1Hz at the low frequency end, but a bit meaningless up in the MHz range.  The resolution of the display is less than 1 part in 500, let alone 3.5 more orders of magnitude.

To each their own I guess.  For me it looks messy.  If it said 2.0M I would be fine with it.  I could always go over to the config menu to see if I had actually set it to 2,000,173 - for all the difference that would make in any results I'd see.

Oh, I agree. It does look cluttered, but it looks intentional rather than a bug.

The ideal solution would be to display the frequency only to the number of decimal places you entered. So entering 2MHz would display as 2MHz. Entering 2.001MHz would display as 2.001MHz etc. without the following unnecessary zeroes.

Perhaps an idea for the next update?
