What is the thread size for GPS antenna mast
« on: December 05, 2018, 12:37:51 am »
Hi,

I'm hoping someone with radio/ham experience can steer me in the right direction to pick out the correct antenna mast.  I've purchased a PCTEL GPS timing antenna kit, part number GPS-TMG-26N, for use with my GPSDO.  The mounting kit includes a plastic base with a threaded female socket.  It states that the antenna mast needs to be 1-1/4" diameter but it gives no information about the male threaded portion needed to secure the antenna base to the mast.

I have searched for the proper mast both in stores and online but have turned up little to nothing.  Does this antenna mount want NTP pipe threads?  Or should I be selecting some sort of PVC schedule 40 pipe?  Or are there really zinc-plated steel antenna masts with threaded ends?   Can someone please point me in the right direction to get a suitable mast.  Stock picture to show the mount and thread:

If it helps, I'm planning on mounting the antenna against the roof soffet preferably on an 8' mast secured using Y-supports.  The RG-6U feeder will run through the mast and out the bottom.  I'll run it inside the house to the basement.

The standard thread on most antenna bases is 1" x 14tpi.

You can probably find better and cheaper models but here is a base for a boat that may get you pointed in the right direction. https://www.amazon.com/Boat-Radio-Antenna-Ratchet-Mount/dp/B01A20SRRU

The thread size on Symmetricom GPS antennas are 3/4" pipe.
Typically a short piece of PVC is used, and then you clamp that, to the mast, or mounting point, of your choice.
