Which material is the best for VHF (2m)?
« on: September 03, 2022, 05:08:48 pm »
I'm looking for a low loss material for building a receiver balun (hence power handling requirement is zero), with the lowest possible loss.
43 and 61 seem to be the closest but these are still start rolling off at around 2.5MHz. Is there anything better out there?

Thanks, this tells me that the 61 material is perfectly fine for this.

It depends on the type of Balun.

If its the transmission line transfomer type, which is most likely at VHF, you might be surprised to discover that higher permeability low frequency material is actually better.

both 61 and 43 are perfectly acceptable for a 2M balun.  Though I wonder - why not just buy the mini circuits component? or Macom ones? They are <$1
