Help: Royel RE-500 Desoldering Station/Adcola T-80
« on: January 07, 2023, 01:53:50 am »
I acquired a Royel RE-500 desoldering station a while back and it's complete except for a tip for the Adcola Thermatic T-80 soldering iron (adjustable temperature).  I don't know what power rating the iron is.  Actually, I can plug it in and check that later.

I've searched the 'net for suitable tips but can find no info at all on the T-80 nor on desoldering tips so I am hoping someone can tell me what they look like.  I can probably make one.  The tip size where it slides into the barrel would be 8.2mm (measured with my vernier calipers).

The pump is quite a beast.

Thermatic Soldering Iron Electronics Schematic is attached.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just powered up the soldering iron and measured it - it was drawing 86 watts.  I guess the T-80 refers to it being an 80 watt iron.

The first soldering iron I owned was given to me in the toolkit provided by my employer when I started as a trainee technician in 1965.  It was an Adcola 19 watt iron.  I used it for years until I bought myself a Weller TCP1 in about 1971-2 which I still use - more than 50 years on.  It cost me nearly a week's wages.
