What ever happened to FPS4000 camera?
« on: December 06, 2019, 05:27:09 am »
Originally a kickstarter called FPS1000, this camera (most recently called FPS4000, and supporting even more frame rates than the original design) was basically a "low budget" (well relatively low budget, as it cost like $2000 instead of $50000) was being sold on a website called Slow Motion Camera Company, who's homepage was at slomocamco.com. However, that website seems to have disappeared (slomocamco.com is now just a dead link), and there is no mention of it disappearing on other websites. Even digital camera forums don't mention its disappearance, or any possible new link (if the guy just moved servers). All references to the guy are on tech blogs referencing his kickstarter, and such blog entries seem to be from around 2014 (though I know that slomocamco.com was a working URL even as recently as last year). He seems to have just disappeared without a trace, and without anybody else on the entire internet even mentioning his disappearance (and thus the disappearance of what was probably the lowest priced high-speed video camera ever).

Does anybody here on EEVBlog Forums know what happened to this guy and the high speed cameras (FPS4000 units) that he was selling?

Hi there,

as mentioned on the website

http://www.hispeedcams.com/fps4000-website-launch-order-page/

The parent company of FPS cameras “The Slow Motion Camera Company Ltd.” went out of business and entered liquidation proceedings. No further development of cameras is expected. More information here on Google Search! https://www.google.com/search?q=the+slow+motion+camera+company+ltd+liquidation

You can get a Chronos 1.4 for $3,400: https://www.krontech.ca/store/Cameras-c21981408
You'd think if there were much value to the FPS1000 design some bigger camera company would have bought them out.

Anything much lower budget and you fall into smartphone territory: https://www.smartprix.com/bytes/best-phones-to-capture-slow-motion-videos/ Huawei mate 30 apparently does 1920 fps.

I am one of the rare FPS1000 owners and I have tried to gather as many users and information about the FPSxxxx cameras here: https://highvoltageforum.net/index.php?board=26.0

So I can only hope that some more users will chime in if they see this :)

COOL! Can you post some videos that show its capability?
