Tool Box Soldering Iron.

any recommendations for a soldering iron to put in your toolbox to take where ever.   I have Hakko FX-951's on my benches, but i'm struggling to find something comparable that is easily trasnsportable.

To do what kind of job? I survived for years with a mains iron and a butane/gas iron doing general soldering.

Just general in teh field repairs and jobs like put connector on cable perhaps.

If you're looking for a cheap, mains-powered iron, try the Yihua 947-II. Under $20, so cheap enough that if it gets destroyed in your toolbox you won't cry.

Hakko FX-600 is mains powered temp adjustable iron and takes a large range of the standard T18 tips. You can also get the conversion sleeve to run high thermal capacity tips or buy the Hakko FX-601 which comes like that. This is like the portable version of the iron that comes with the FX-888.

Dremel Versatip (which I own) runs on butane/gas which has a few different tips for soldering, hot air, gas torch etc.

Should be able to get both of these tools for $150 combined.
