owon pds6062 vs siglent sds1062
« on: August 08, 2012, 02:24:13 am »
since they are both in the same price range, which one is better as far as performance?
and is rigol ds1052 worth the $100 dollars difference?

There are 2 PDS6062 models, S and T.  S have poor STN display (= do not even think). Today it is just exactly out!  Model T have TFT.
But then, this Owon PDS serie have only 6k per channel sample buffer. It is small (but in some kind of use still well enough - depends what kind of signals under test and other needs). Also signal drawing resolution on display is nothing like SDS series, I have not tested PDS other models but PDS5022T have same display as 6062T but captured signal drawing do not use panel native resolution).
Its memory is nearly same as Rigol short memory, If I remember right Rigol have 4k per channe)l. But it have also 1M long memory (half speed and shared with channels so that in one channel use it is 500k/channel with long memory and maximum is 250MSa/s with 2 channel long memory.
With one channel use Rigol have maximum 1GSa/s if use short memory. This Owon PDS have maximum 250MSa/s.
(owon SDS series is totally different thing..)

Siglent SDS1062.  What 1062?  There is  C, D, CN and CM models, all different!

C have 32k memory and max 500MSa/250MSa/s, D have 32k and 500MSa/s, CN have also 40k memory and 1GSa/s max. CM have 2M memory and 1GSa/s max.  All these have tiny 5.6" display.
There is possible that now coming very good offers in this serie becouse it is going obsolete and new models are with 7" display.  Also propably most of Owon PDS serie models.

Only Siglent CM is somehow comparable to Rigol DS1052E. (samplerate and memory)
But if really do not need high samplerate all these can do work. Also note, Siglent and Rigol have lot of more fast waveform update rate than Owon.

But do not forget Owon SDS6062
It have 500MSa/s but it have max 10M sample buffer and it have absolutely best dispaly in this group.
It can sample this 500MSa/s to very low horizontal speeds.

here is some rigol, hantek siglent and owon samplerate tables just for reference what to look.
(note, Hantek samplerate table is obsolete and belongs to old HW version (it have changed some amount if use long memory))
http://owon.freeforums.org/rigol-owon-hantek-and-siglent-samplerate-tables-t9.html

It can clearly see how memory affect to samplerate.
Samplerate is important and do not look only these "max" values in ads.

Be careful with prices and compare apples to apples including equipment but also other things in deal.
(example  after sales customer care)

Note that Siglent small display scopes are going to obsolete old models class with all they bads (and goods).
Same for Owon PDS most models. These are "end of product lifetime" phase.......terminal phase.
(sellers have "panic" for sell stock out... )

It would seem not (if you get the latest firmware):
