I have see stupid presentations and smart ones about DMM,
this one is just a honest mini video.

The removable display can be handy in automotive troubleshooting.
The above example made me to believe it too. ;)

In practise, that sort of range is marginal. Unless my meter head/body units are aligned properly, the maximum range tends to be <10 feet (3m) or so. If I remember tomorrow, I will try and do what the man in the video is doing, and report back.

I hope they have a handy spare set of batteries for them, mine eats a set of 5 AA cells in 3 months when turned off. Reports from other users show similar usage.

Well I am using rechargeable on the Agilent U1272A  from the first day.

If I had this Fluke , I would had feed it with lots of Eneloop from the first day.

Ditto. My 233 burns through Eneloops around every two to four weeks. Still, worth the inconvenience to have the removable display.

Indeed a very handy Multimeter.... never really had a look for the remote display and saw it more as an "nice to have" feature, but some people could really have an easier life with that.
Nice Idea, Fluke.

Even so I do understand Zad  feelings, he was unaware about the battery usage.
But this is what this forum does to people, it offers awareness.

This was also the reason that I had nag against the Fluke forum repeatedly, like a crying baby !!
It keeps out members from participating to it, and it does not serve it purpose !!

A yellow sticker on it ( DMM ) from Fluke saying : Warning ... batteries usage is constant , remove for long storage !!
Its all that they had to do.

The Agilent DMM it is a bit more innocent, If you kill the batteries by doing lots of days of data logging,
or using the back light really allot, you are responsible about the battery consumption.
Even if it had AA instead of AAA , those would be dead too in a later time.

Ok, battery consumption is one side, but if it could really improve your work I don't think there would be a Problem to invest a bit more for a good charger and some eneloops.....
I use them for quite a while in my Photo-Equipment and can't complain....or as you said, put the batteries out for storage.
As long as you are aware of that it shouldn't be a problem.
Well, and an Agilent with 9V rechargable battery isn't the best option for time to time use, too. If you put it aside for some weeks and the battery looses power (at least if it isn't Low Self Discharge) you may have similar problems.....
... To get it short.....no matter which DMM, always have spare batteries for emergency ;)

Well in my case I had made a small mistake, not related with the DMM it self.
I had buy one set of Ansmann  AAA 1100mA in advance and kept them in storage for future use.
Those have a known fast self discharge rate like most NiMH does.

For multimeters only Eneloop or similar ones are the best choice,
if those Ansmann AAA ever die, I will replace them with Eneloop AAA.  :)

But the great part with the U1272A is that the battery indicator, it speaks the truth .. LOL
I have test it repeatedly in the last months, if it says the batteries are empty... they truly are  0% 1V.
But this info will be part of my supplementary review about it.  ;)

Sounds OK to me :D.....
So the U1272A seems to be made for rechargeables ;). Hmm to me it looked a bit too much as an Surfboard in it's size, so I didn't dig deeper there.
Has anyone around already used the fluke 233. Could be a nice gift for my brother for christmas. Then he wouldn't have to crawl in his car's back that much anymore :D

Eneloops is really a good choice for that stuff, and their lower "rated capacity" doesn't do much.
I used some Ansmann before these eneloops, and because of the self discharge of the NiMh the eneloops in fact have more power in my speedlights. And they aren't much more expensive than quality rechargeables. Never sth. else than enelopps for me.....

Well, but as I said... I alway keep spare alkalines.... you never know when you are going of power ;).

If so, then the Fluke 28II it will look to you, like a two floors Surfboard.. LOL
But its true, all those full size DMM had be made, so to fit in the hand of an fully grown man.  :)
