Teardown mystery item
« on: October 09, 2012, 08:07:19 am »
Posted this on Twitter, but re-posted here:

First person to guess today's Teardown Tuesday item before I upload it wins a coveted PCB ruler :o
The other side has nothing but a high frequency crystal.

I would say that it is some kind of detector, looks like an antenna on top (and maybe bottom).

Looks like a cheap and nasty RF based doorbell or remote control transmitter. Poorly positioned SMD parts = cheap build quality, and corroded surround to push button = exposed to damp  ;)

Or the LED strips remote (haven't seen a motorola mcu on those cheap remotes though).

the way the various active components are connected make it appear to be acting as an RF tranciever, something along the lines of, push button, sends command, recieves and processes data and send something back?
