Fluke 123 screen save problem
« on: October 14, 2011, 07:44:00 am »
Just added the photos I should put on the other day

Hi guys I'm looking for some advise on the used fluke 123 20 MHz that I just got on trademe here in NZ, all seams OK the only thing is that when you go to save screens there are only two locations to save to not ten as  stated in the manual. how ever if I go to save setup there are ten places.

The software version is V01.08 last Cal 11-1-2000. I can't find any updates on the Fluke site.

hoping someone out there might have an idea how to solve issues.

OK so go easy on me I'm a Heavy equipment Tech for Caterpillar here in NZD, I have had an interest in electronics since watching Dave's Blogs since the start of his DMM reviews & ended up getting a fluke 289 to work on machines that are becoming more and more complex, hence the 123 scope-meter.

PS also new to forms so I'm not sure how other members respond, I guess I just look back at this topic???????

anyway cheers if anyone can help.

Hi NzKGB, Your story reflects my own, as in I am more an electrician/mechanical technician and find myself working more and more on electronic/software based systems.
I'm an ROV Pilot/Technician working in the Oil Industry and I am sure your CAT vehicle work is very similar to the Work Class ROV systems I work on ie Electrical/Hydraulic with robotics threw in to mix it all up in ::) only my stuff works in depth up to a couple thousand meters :o
Your meter seems to have an earlier firmware from mine which is v02:00.

When I press save/print button I get

Press Enter I get

I think to get a new firmware you either have to send it to Fluke for calibration or have a PC to meter cable, but not sure if Fluke release firmware through that attachment.

Just had a quick google around and found new firmware here:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:ZYN17YPczKkJ:www.fluke.com/fluke/uken/support/software/scopemeter_firmware_upgrades.htm+firmware+update+fluke+123&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&client=firefox-a

problem is you need a PC to meter optical link. I have made one as per this web site:

http://omapalvelin.homedns.org/fluke/     I went for the usb CC2102 chip serial to usb type.

Hope this helps bud ;)

You can feel free to e-mail Fluke about the latest FW for your instrument. Sometimes they are known to be late a year or two before web upload  :)

However keep in mind some versions need recalibration and this can cost very much
Oh, the joy of sending various electronics to silicon heaven

Awesome

thanks for your help I will have a good read of the instructions & decide if I'm  brave enough to do the upgrade myself. I have a cable because my 289 DMM has the fluke form software. I'm sure it will work with the 123 scopemeter. If it has to have a Cal after I will just sent it to the fluke agent here in NZ....

anyway what a cool job you have, I bet you get some real brain teasers in that environment. but it is cool when you solve a problem & how simple it is when you see the fault.

I can tell you one thing 20 years ago when I did my time as a fitter & machinist i didn't think that I would be logged on to an electronics forum talking about a problem I'm having with my scopemeter. you never know where life will take you. I was thinking of starting a post Re mechanical/electronic control or some thing along that line. keen to hear what others think if there are enough of us out there.

anyway thanks for the help guys

Does the usb-cable for the 280 series multimeter also work with the 120 series scopemeter?

i have a Fluke 289 with cable and software and consider buying a scopemeter  ;)

Yes you can make it work.  The 189/289 cable won't fit the 123/124 socket but it will work if you hold it in place.  Positioning is critical and you might want to make a bracket because it is difficult to hand hold in place.  Be really careful and make sure you have it right before risking a FW update.

I just checked a 123 that has fw 2.03 and it has 10 screen storage capacity.  BTW FW before 2.0 can't be upgraded to latest version.
