Ribbon cable punch
« on: September 13, 2015, 12:19:06 am »
I have need to selectively punch out short sections of a wire in a standard 0.05" pitch ribbon cable, this had relatively common application in the 80's and 90's but I can't find the name of the punch tool since "punch" seems to now refer to the press used to assemble the IDC connectors and a lot of other punching tools for cable assembly. Is there a set of dies available for the common bench top presses or is there a specialised tool available for making gaps in ribbon cable? It would be easy enough to modify a cutter to have a short blade (even scissors would be strong enough for most ribbon cable) section but it would be easier if there is something already on the market with guides/fences etc.
