Here's a teardown of a Vision Research Phantom V5 high speed camera from around 2001.

This camera can record 1024x1024 at 1000fps (1Gpx/sec), into 1GB of RAM, which was quite a large amount when this was released in 2001. Not sure of the original sell price, but I'd imagine the high five figures.
