PHOTOS: New Fluke 87V Rev11 Prototype
« on: July 05, 2011, 08:41:14 am »
After my little rant question asking what Fluke have done, it turns out they have fixed the issue and updated the PCB.
They have rushed me a new as yet unreleased Fluke 87V that has the new pre-production prototype Rev 11 PCB (my meter has Rev 9 PCB).

Looks like a few added components around the processor near to the JTAG interface, and a couple on the other "more sensitive" side of the PCB.
They would not elaborate on exactly what was changed, apart from that they found some RF sensitive components and have fixed the issue.

Dave.

Dave, did you test it ?
Are you going to make a specific video about it?

About the elaboration part, its not a big surprise, at list to me.

In a way, I am happy that they came with something new.
The next step is to lower down the retail price for 100$.
This model today has a new competitor from another brand, and actually a very powerful one.

Haven't tested it yet, I took it apart first! ;D

Yes, not surprising they did not want to elaborate, they said they didn't want to comment on what may be proprietary stuff, which is fair enough.

I have bought a fluke 87v from e bay at March 2011. I use it since March 15 (I have written it on the holster with my name and my university :p). Is my main multimeter and I use it every day. I have never notice the revision of the board, since I see this topic. I clearly remember under the range switch it has a little bit of metal (Dave's rev9 is plastic I see) and take the decision, take the meter apart and I see that’s rev10... So I take some pictures (I haven't the best camera :( ) I never put my mobile near the meter so I don't know if it can kill it :p

The (c)2002 reminds me how old the current 87V is.
It really needs and update I think to add a fuse compartment and ditching the 9V battery lead.

Well, technically there is an update, it's the 28-II  :D

Are you going to be making a video on the new revision? The PCB seems so crisp! Beautiful.

In the upper left corner there is an LT part co-branded with Fluke

Yes. It'll just be a short one I suspect.
