Philips desoldering wick at Jameco
« on: November 25, 2015, 03:43:07 am »
Jameco.com has some Philips Zip Wick desoldering wick, .1-inch (2.5mm) in their special buys section: http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10001_10001_2192843_-1

$14.95 for 100 feet!  Having just run out of Tech Spray 1803-5F, I bought a roll of the Philips to try.

It's important to note that the Tech Spray seemed unusable when I first got it.  That turned out to be the Aoyue soldering iron, since replaced with a used JBC.  Both the Tech Spray and the Philips work remarkably well, particularly with a big 2245-211 high thermal efficiency 3mm chisel tip.

Jameco also has some .05-inch Philips for $10 for 25 feet.

This is the first time I've ordered from Jameco in years.  I'll have to pay more attention to them.

I had to check my 1.5M roll. It still has 4 windings left. I'm good for another 10 years, perhaps. :) I don't get a chance to reball a BGA very often.

I'm fond of Chemtronics, but I just might have to take a look.

Thanks.  :)

Based on KL27x's comment, this should be a lifetime supply with the remnants passed down to the grandkids.  :-DD

A hundred feet is a lot for me, too.  Even more so, because there was no way to tell what the Philips stuff would be like.  So I ordered it in addition to ten feet of the Tech Spray.   :palm:

Thanks, I snagged a roll. At my age there will be 95 feet left for the kids! ;D

I am not doing much high density rework/repairs, is all. I'm sure I could use 100 feet a year in the right circumstances.

I did manage to bridge an FPC connector the other day in a tight spot and had to use another quarter inch. :)
