New EEVBlog Soft Case - weird straps?
« on: April 13, 2024, 02:03:01 am »
The EEVBlog soft multimeter case/pouch just showed up on Amazon recently, and I bought it from there because I was buying some other stuff on Amazon anyway.

I did some searching just now, and couldn't find many reviews or internal photos of this case. Are these internal straps normal? How are they typically used? The hanging strap, on the inside? Velcro loops strap on left edge, and then hooks strap and loops strap in the middle?

I have a couple other multimeter soft cases and hard cases, they all have an internal strap from the left edge to the right edge (either in 2 velcro halves, or one elastic strap). This was a pretty minor expense, to support the channel, so I'm not outraged or anything. The case is actually decent otherwise, good padding, exterior, inner pocket. I'm inclined to just carefully cut off the internal straps. But I'm curious ... is this intentional?

The hanging strap is obviously positioned to pop out through the end of the zipper.  Put it out if/when you want to use it or put it back in to avoid it snagging on stuff.

The velcro straps appear to be reasonably positioned for holding hanked probe leads.  Try using them for a while before deciding to shorten or remove them.

Yeah ... I'll start by just  cutting off one of the 3 velcro strips, one in the middle on the right. The one in the middle on the left is hooks, and makes some sense with the loops velcro strap on the left edge.

The two in the middle, they stick together if nothing is between them, and are pretty stiff and annoying there. You could put something between them, but when they come back together on the other side, they stick straight out again rather than wrapping around nicely, because they're already facing each other. And you can't use the loops strap on the right-middle with the loops strap on the left edge of course. I'm still not convinced that this arrangement makes sense: there's something extra, or something missing.

Don't cut them off, just learn how to use them:
2118785-0
2118791-1
2118797-2

Looks to be the same arrangement, anyway.

The other handle is inside so you can tuck it away if you don't want it. If you do you just feed it out the zip.

OK, yeah, that is consistent with this eevblog case, and makes sense. The velcro straps in the eevblog case are just stiffer / less fabric-strap-y. Thanks
