Mystery microscope
« on: July 02, 2020, 10:06:18 am »
While researching various budget-ish digital microscope options, I came across this on my country's go-to e-commerce site:
https://allegro.pl/oferta/cyfrowy-mikroskop-16mpix-full-hd-z-monitorem-10-6-8980198512
That price amounts to some $645

What I find interesting:
  • Seems rather slick, properly engineered and integrated, i.e. no nonsense like loose wires everywhere, splitting USB power between the camera and LED light with a Y-cable, light dimmer on a cable and then an IR-remote for some other functions, etc.
  • The optics seem like they mean business (going by what looks like a relatively large metal lens barrel)

What lights up all kinds of red lights for me:
  • I've failed to find any kind of any meaningful mentions of this gear apart from the rather useless manufacturer's web page where they don't seem to be able to make up their minds whether the thing is actually called WD-I106L or WD-I1600L: http://welldu.cn/index.php?m=Product&a=show&id=22&l=en and some Indian site with the photo of the microscope set up in some dodgy-looking basement somewhere.
  • The seller refused my request to send me the user's manual for some reason, pointing me to their YouTube channel with what is supposed to be the video file from this scope:
where someone pans around some PCB for five minutes with no context whatsoever that leaves you none the wiser as of what the useful working distance is, what's the lag, etc.

Has anybody come across this microscope anywhere? Is it commonly rebadged as something else, perhaps?

This looks like a good start.

Yup, thanks, already mentioned that in my original post. Looks like a good start and a dead end at the same time, unfortunately...

Seems pricey for what it is.

nice and slick? maybe. but i will have a hard time looking at monitor that close, position not configurable thats bad for me. $600+ is more the cost of a brand spanking PC.
