my new lab setup - more pictures !!
« on: January 29, 2011, 06:46:41 pm »
Hi guys,

i wanted to sure with you some of the photos of my new building progress home lab.
i'm a hobbiest but i'm study EE (second year now).
i love high-end stuff as you can see in the gear i have even though most of the time it's OVERKILL.
BUT you surprise to know how cheap i got some of the stuff i have.
right now the lab value that i paid is about 850 USD. REALLY huge bargin if you look on some of the stuff i have.

so here is the pictures (by the way, this table i rebuild my self - new paint and board). i only need an OSCILLOSCOPE to complete my setup but it's expensive.

Cool mate! Maybe this thread could be made a sticky, so each of us doesn't make a new one as we update our workplace. (For example, this thread.)

Here's my little setup. These pictures are from when I was starting to set it up. right now there are more shelves, lamps and parts. hopefully I don't break tables.

The stuff I have:
Textronix TDS410 100Mhz DSO
Kikusui 60Mhz analog scope
Velleman Handheld
Agilent U1271A Meter
(A variety of other meters)
2 analog Power supplys
A myriad of parts in bins and containers
A function generator
and other sundry items

Also, when I walk out the door, I have this.

We have:

Surface grinders
CNC Grinders
Tool Grinders
Manual Lathes
Manual Mills
Haas VF-5 CNC mill
CNC Ram EDM
Wire EDM
Standard RAM EDM
Arc Welder
Heat Treating facilities

So we can build pretty much anything, within reason.

Lol, no, these aren't mine. I work here and run the machine shop. I have my work area set up upstairs in a large unused office area.

That is what normally would be my "permanent" lab at home. (A lot of equipment and supplies are currently in a temporary lab.) I'm evaluating the transient response of some digital filters on a MSP430. And believe it or not, the multimeter is measuring CPU load. I programmed the MSP430 to set a GPIO high in the ADC interrupt and return it to low in the idle loop. Then I just connect my multimeter to the GPIO and set it to measure duty cycle.

Hi guys,

i have a few updates of my bench.
yesterday my father and i finished to build a shelf that comes above the bench table.
i sketched it up and designed it and my father built it.
so basically it have just a regular shelf that hold by square rods (to hold the weight) and below the shelf as you can see there is two iron triangles, that has a worm bar go through them, that in the future will hold spools of hookup wire.

so here's the pictures .... enjoy... ;)

just after i install the shelves (before tiding up)

and after

Here's a pic of my shop.

It's a bit messy at the time this was taken. I've cleaned it since. ..... And then messed it up a little again.

Water (or any other liquid) does not mix well with electricity/electronic gadgets. Take care at those pipes.

My plumbing is in great shape! The house's too  ;)
Seriously though. Never a leak. The old washer valves are very new. I had replaced them just a couple of years ago.

Time will tell.
At university and in all structured cabling guides they recomend to avoid being near water or drainage pipes at all costs.

As much as possible I use and keep all my electronic equipment (amplifier, CD player, scope, power supply, etc.) away from any source of liquid. We'll never know....

Better safe than sorry I always say. It's a shame however that sometimes, space is an issue with a lot of people (including me) so we must make do. I tend not to critique work area of other's because sometimes it just works for them. Like someone who is messy but knows where everything is!

Ipman, your work area is beautiful! I love the rack and how you can keep all your tools above you when you need them. Do you coordinate the pliers and cutters by type or length or anything?

I did not shown my "lab" because is composed of my wife's foldable ironing table and a part of the living floor. Works good enough because there is no more room available  :(
I wish I had something link I see here, but ... no luck.
