Remember the DATSAN brand name in automobiles?https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DatsunFrom 1958 to 1986, only vehicles exported by Nissan were identified as Datsun. By 1986 Nissan had phased out the Datsun name, but re-launched it in June 2013 as the brand for low-cost vehicles manufactured for emerging markets. In North America, NISSAN was the “new name” (owner) after 1986.
OKI International tried this name change for Metcal ... the PS-800 was one of first products with new OKI name. Marketing failed.Today, METCAL has been recovering its brand identity from this “New Coke” fiasco.
