Definitely Leica
I used my first Leica Disto (the first generation) at an archeology excavation back in 99. We used to abuse it in all sorts of ways and I have nothing to say but praise. It worked with us in dust mud gravel sweat occasional drop down 5 meter deep excavation pit etc. It never let us down, probably still measuring away in the hands of some architecture student.
Now I own a D2 which is the same quality but smaller size.
Excellent accuracy
very well thought out - nothing lacking and nothing excessive - will do Pythagoras - will scan continuously
durable
excellent battery life
very well written manual
On a side note, if measuring distances greater than 15 meters outdoors you definitely want one with an optical viewfinder. You can't see a tiny laser dot that far away under bright sunshine. On the other hand if you measure mostly indoors D2 is smaller and gets in your pocket more easily.
