JBC DR560-A desoldering tool heating element
« on: July 18, 2024, 06:38:27 am »
Hi,
after 27 hours operating time and 201 hours sleep time the heating element of JBC DR560-A doesn't work anymore (open-circuit). Most time I set 400°C operating temperature and 260°C sleep temperature.

Anyone with DR560-A: how long your heating element lasts?

Not only DR560-A is quite expensive, it also seems that operating it is expensive, as the heating element is around 130 EUR.

I noticed e.g. Hakko FR301-03/P heating elements costs only half of the JBC's one. Is there anyone with this desoldering tool to compare the lifetime of the heating elements?

See if they'll take it back under warranty.

The heating element is just a normal JBC cartridge, so I would expect it to last a while, rarely reported here that the heaters fail.
Though the thermal mass is a bit higher so the heater could be stressed more.

The heating element was almost 10 years old (but only with 27 hours operating time). I sent all the info to my distributor, they contacted JBC. We will see what the conclusion will be, if any. Meanwhile I ordered 2 heating elements and other consumables for DR560. For that price normal people buy complete soldering stations! :D

Yea, that's the issue with JBC expensive, but should have lasted more then 27 hours.

I have a DS 5300 desoldering station that uses the DR 5600 iron. This iron was the forerunner to your DR 560.

I have been using this machine daily for 30+ years, and have never changed the heating element. In fact, I am still using the original 5600-003 tip that came with the unit for most of the work I do. I cannot imagine a JBC heater failing at such low hours, regardless of age.  :-//
